In 12 patients with disseminated prostate carcinoma, supraclavicular lymph node biopsy was performed. In 3 patients with palpable supraclavicular node, tumor cells were found in the lymph nodes. In the remaining 9 in whom there were no palpable nodes, unilateral left scalene lymph node excision biopsy revealed no evidence of tumor cells in the nodes in spite of diffuse bone metastasis. These findings suggest that unilateral scalene node biopsy did not provide additional information and has no advantage over the known parameters in staging of prostatic cancer.
