Considerable progress has been made in the treatment of Hodgkin's disease and the other lymphomas during the past 15 years. The present paper summarizes, in part, studies which our department has conducted or in which we have participated during this period. Studies of chlorambucil, prednisone, mitorgen mustard, vinblastine, cytoxan, and vincristine used as single agents have shown the efficacy of these drugs in the treatment of particular lymphomas. Our patients with late stage Hodgkin's disease have been treated in protocols of the Acute Leukemia Group B in which various types of combination chemotherapy, with or without maintenance therapy, have been and are being explored. In our studies, combination chemotherapy has shown no better results than single agent induction followed by oral maintenance therapy with chlorambucil or cytoxan in treating lymphosarcoma. Treatment of reticulum cell sarcoma remains discouraging.
