Abstract Twenty to thirty percent of patients who have had supervesical urinary diversion with the bladder left behind subsequently develop empyema of the isolated bladder. The following study was undertaken in a series of 36 female dogs divided into three groups to determine the role of infection and obstruction in the partial and completely obstructed isolated bladder. From these studies a model was selected to evaluate various therapeutic regimens.
