A method for total lysozyme extraction from mammalian connective tissue is presented. There seems to be a correlation in the anatomic distribution of lysozyme and the mucopolysaccharides in mammalian connective tissue. These constituents are found in the highest concentration in preosseous cartilage, among whose zones are additional concentration gradients. Because there are differences in cellularity among the connective tissues, a comparative study of lysozyme and the mucopolysaccharides is presented considering cellularity as well as tissue mass.
