A simple, rapid and reproducible reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method using multiwavelength detectors is described for the separation and classification of carotenoids and chlorophylls present in the fresh leaf of tea (Camellia sinensis L). Classification and tentative identification from retention time and spectral data for 28 pigments from the fresh leaf of tea are presented, eight of which are reported here for the first time.
