Fifty‐eight urine samples were collected during the grazing season from cattle at North Wyke. N, K and Na contents, pH, specific gravity and osmotic potential were measured. Significant correlations were found between many of these variables. Wide ranges in N, K and Na contents occurred, indicating considerable variation in the rate of return of these nutrients between urine patches. The low osmotic potential of some samples suggested the involvement of an osmotic effect in urine scorch.
