A comparison was made between Carpenter's, Erbersdobler's and Rao's methods for the evaluation of available lysine in nine different protein concentrates. The use of methanol is not recommended as a solvent for the FDNB reagent. Measurement at 360 nm gives erroneously higher results. The separation of εDNP‐lysine was best on column chromatography.
