A method for determining residues of dinobuton in crops has been developed. It is based on the extraction of the crop with hexane followed by a clean‐up involving acid potassium permanganate solution, and chromatography on neutral alumina. Dinobuton is converted on the alumina column to an aluminium salt of dinoseb, which is eluted with aqueous acetone containing butylamine, and determined spectro‐photometrically at 378 mμ. The method is applicable to other alkyl dinitrophenyl esters.
