Oficial studies of the problem of residues of pesticides in foodstuffs in Great Britain are conducted under the direction of the Panel on Residues of Pesticides in Foodstuffs. The origins of this Panel and the criteria by which food/pesticide combinations are selected for study are described. This paper serves as a general introduction to a series of papers in which the results of individual studies are to be given.
