A modified method of measuring the quantity of bixin in annatto ( Bixa ) preparations is described. Thin‐layer chromatography is used to separate the bixin, which is then assayed spectrophotometrically. The method of separation is very rapid and no less accurate than a paper‐chromatographic method formerly used.
