Extractable aluminium (i.e., soluble in 0.5N‐acetic acid) has been determined in soils of the coastland of British Guiana and also the aluminium content of leaves of plants grown on them. It is shown that extractable aluminium in the soils depended on their organic matter content, but is not related to the aluminium contents of the leaves of natural vegetation. The aluminium contents of leaves varied much between species and also between plants growing in different soils.
