Piper's method for the determination of anion‐exchange capacity of soils is modified for use with roots of seedlings. The phosphate adsorbed from ammonium phosphate solution is extracted with alkali and determined colorimetrically. In quadruplicate tests the error was usually 1–3%, but occasionally up to 7%. A few results are given for roots of seedlings of oats, peas, barley, sunflower and maize.
