Barosma betulina oil is shown to contain, besides limonene, menthone and diosphenol, two additional components: l ‐pulegone and Ψ‐diosphenol—an isomer of diosphenol. B. crenulata oil, besides limonene, menthone and a trace of diosphenol, has been found to contain a large proportion of l ‐pulegone. This seems to be the first recorded isolation of natural l ‐pulegone. A reliable ultra‐violet assay method for total diosphenols in B. betulina oil is described.
