A method is described whereby an egg shell may be divided into 50 pieces, each marked in such a way that its position relative to all other pieces is known. Pieces of shell obtained in this way may be studied in relation to a number of characteristics and some typical results have been given. The method should make possible a more detailed study, not only of normal shells, but also of the changes occurring during shell deposition and during incubation.
