When chicks are fed a ration containing a high level of chlortetracycline, bacteriostatic concentrations of the antibiotic are found in the serum within a few hours. Minimum serum response for 4–5‐week‐old chicks is obtained with 100 p.p.m. of the antibiotic in the feed. Great variations occur in the serum response of chicks to the antibiotic and some of the factors involved are discussed.
