Discussion of previous work suggests that the contra‐flow principle is suitable for efficient through‐air‐drying of beds of wheat. A design method, based on parameters reported for the drying of single‐grain layers of wheat, is proposed and experimentally verified to forecast the performance of a contra‐flow wheat dryer. This method is used to show the effects of the major variables on the performance of such a dryer.
