The absorption of γ‐benzene hexachloride (BHC) by a variety of seeds and by wheat seedlings has been measured. The amount of insecticide absorbed from the saturated vapour by seeds in six weeks varied from 31 μg./g. in wheat to 128 μg./g. in linseed. The process has similarities to the absorption of m̀‐BHC by insects. Wheat seedlings removed up to 100 μg./g. (fresh weight) of m̀‐BHC in seven days from an aqueous solution bathing their roots, but increasing amounts of the insecticide were lost by the plant as the experiments proceeded.
