A method suitable for investigating the penetration of herbicide spray into ground‐crop foliage is presented. The sampling variation is likely to be rather high, but the method can at least differentiate between broadly different treatments. Under the conditions of the trial, a high‐volume application resulted in a greater retention of spray at the level of the weeds than did a low‐volume application.
