Abstract A method is described for the colorimetric analysis of residues of p ‐chlorobenzyl p ‐chlorophenyl sulphide on leaf and fruit samples and in animal tissue. The method is based on pre‐oxidation of the spray residues followed by intensive nitration of the resulting p ‐chlorobenzyl p ‐chlorophenyl sulphone, and the formation of a purple colour on interaction of the nitrated products in benzene with sodium methylate. The method is sensitive to 0.05 mg. and is specific in the presence of all likely contaminants except DDT.
