A new method of determining the component acids of oils containing epoxy‐ and/or hydroxy‐acids is described and applied to the seed oils of Vernonia anthelmintica and Strophanthus hispidus containing 12:13‐epoxyoctadec‐9‐enoic (74%) and 9‐hydroxyoctadec‐12enoic acid (15%) respectively. Some new derivatives of this latter acid are reported and the periodate method of determining α‐glycols is criticized.
