In a series of practical tests on farms in the United Kingdom, procaine penicillin (procaine benzylpenicillin) was found to increase the growth rate of weaned pigs and to improve the efficiency of food utilization. Fortification of the diet with 10 g. or 15 g. of procaine penicillin per ton did not give significantly greater responses than did 5 g.; the economic level of addition may be less than 5 g. of procaine penicillin per ton under the conditions used.
