A novel anionic Gemini surfactant containing oxygen atoms in the linking group was designed and synthesized. The surface properties of the anionic Gemini surfactant were investigated by measuring the surface tension and conductivity. The Gemini surfactant showed a low critical micelle concentration value, which decreases with increasing concentration of NaCl. The calculated physicochemical properties indicate that oxygen atoms in the linking group interact with water molecules stronger than CH 2 .
