Outsourcing, which is the process of shifting tasks and services previously performed in‐house to outside vendors, is hardly a new idea in management. But the volume, extent and character of outsourcing has been changing rapidly. Outsourcing is now a fashionable activity and has become a management fad as much as a reasoned decision. It can offer great opportunities to both the buyer and supplier when used wisely. When it becomes a mantra and used without thought, it can do great damage to both parties.
