This paper focuses on measures of readiness for success in the digital economy. Scorecards for measuring preparedness for the Internet‐based economy are discussed. The New Zealand context and environment for E‐Commerce is introduced. Key results from a novel study of Net Readiness in eight New Zealand industries are presented. Further Net Readiness research is proposed to provide international comparisons and explore industry‐specific factors, size and links to corporate performance. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
