The paper sets business‐process re‐engineering in the total business context by means of a simple model The model enables managers to identify and modify processes where tangible benefits can be obtained and it promotes effective corporate control The model is a powerful tool for formulating strategy and can easily be applied to alternative business boundaries The approach supports the specification of information systems and the design of management reports .
