The environment of the banking industry in the US has evolved from a fairly stable environment to a dynamic and discontinuous environment. Banks not only have to adhere to government regulations, but in addition have to contend with changes in technological advances. Furthermore, banks are also faced with intense competition from non‐bank banks, i.e. those entities that are directly competing with traditional banks in terms of product and service offerings.
