In a global economic environment, the pressure to improve a country's business infrastructure will come, not from within, but from outside the country, as more and more businesses depend on international trade to survive. Integrated service digital network (ISDN) is a critical element of an effective business infrastructure for integrating business functions such as intelligence, marketing, manufacturing and research and development. This paper reviews critical ISDN developments in several industrialized countries and suggests future investment directions for public policy makers and business leaders to consider.
