The infrared and Raman spectra of YbBiGeO 5 were recorded and are briefly discussed on the basis of its structural peculiarities. The infrared spectra of the complete series of isostructural LnBiGeO 5 compounds (Ln = Dy–Lu and Y) were also recorded and some comparisons with related species are made.
