A dispersive near‐infrared Raman spectrometer was constructed using a photomultiplier with a new InP/InGaAsP photocathode which is well suited for 1064 nm excitation. Totally fluorescence‐free Raman spectra of normal and cancerous human lung tissues were obtained. The future possibility of Raman spectroscopic cancer diagnosis is discussed.
