The selective enhancements of Raman bands belonging to “A” and “B” symmetry species of methylene blue (MB) molecule adsorbed on gold nanocolloids (AuNC) have been investigated in terms of Albrecht's “A” term and Herzberg–Teller (HT) contributions. Attempts have been made to correlate the orientations of the molecule on the AuNC surface with the CT mechanism of SE(R)RS. The variations in bond polarizability derivatives towards selective enhancements of Raman bands are also explored. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
