Four‐photon spectra of the induced coherent rotations of H 2 O, D 2 O and HDO molecules on its selective rotational transition in bulk liquid have been observed for the first time. We have measured the rotational spectra of distilled water (H 2 O) and 1:1 H 2 O/D 2 O mixture in the range 30–40 cm −1 . We have identified the ortho ‐ / para ‐spin‐isomer lines in both the isotopic liquids. The application of this technique to the study of spin‐selective interactions of water molecules with biopolymers and nano objects is discussed. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
