FT‐IR and FT‐Raman spectra of sulfanilic acid were recorded and analysed. Surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectrum was recorded on a silver electrode surface. Potential dependence of SERS profile was studied. The profile was most prominent at an electrode potential of −1.2 V. The molecule was adsorbed on the silver surface with the benzene ring in a ‘flat orientation’. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
