This paper gives a summary of the Wolfgang Kiefer Honorary Issue of the Journal of Raman Spectroscopy . The contributions in this special issue convincingly demonstrate the great applicability of Raman spectroscopy for almost all natural sciences, making this technique one of the most essential laser spectroscopic methods.
