The infrared (IR) and Raman spectra were recorded at room temperature for L ‐phenylalanine, L ‐phenylalaninium dihydrogenphosphate, and DL ‐phenylalaninium dihydrogenphosphate, and the observed bands were assigned. In the first compound, a phenylalaninium cation and a zwitterionic L ‐phenylalanine and in the latter compound two protonated DL ‐phenylalaninium cations have been identified. Presence of NH···O and OH···O hydrogen bonds are revealed from the spectra. The symmetry of the dihydrogenphosphate anion is found to be retaining C 2 v symmetry in both crystals.
