Investigation of the Raman spectra of the molten MgCl 2 ‐KCl system by the use of factor analysis indicates that the melt is a two‐component system involving equilibrium between MgCl   4 2−and Mg 2 Cl   7 3− . The pure Raman spectra corresponding to these two species are recovered from the broad features via a self‐modeling method.
