Contribution of Raman spectroscopy to art and history

Blue pigments used by a 19th century French artist were analysed by Raman microspectrometry. The results are discussed in relation to the painting materials available at that time. This study is connected with an artistic study of the drawings, and allows the artistic and technical aspects of the work of this painter to be compared.
