IR and Raman spectra of (CH 3 NH 3 ) 3 P 3 O 9 were recorded and analysed. The vibrational bands due to P 3 O   9 3−and (CH 3 NH 3 ) + groups are identified. From the spectral analysis, it is inferred that the P 3 O   9 3−ion has a ring structure in the compound. Hydrogen bonds of moderate strength are observed between the external oxygen atoms of P 3 O   9 3−and NH 3 + groups.
