Infrared and Raman spectra of LiNH 3 OHSO 4 and LiND 3 ODSO 4 were recorded and analysed. Bands were assigned on the basis of SO 4 , NH 3 and OH vibrations. The symmetric stretching mode in the deuterated compound is found to be at higher frequencies, indicating the existence of strong hydrogen bonds in LiNH 3 OHSO 4 . The SO 4 ion is distorted in the crystal. A, B and C bands are observed in the OH stretching region, also showing the formation of strong hydrogen bonds.
