Potassium titanyl orthorarsenate KTiOAsO 4 (KTA) was studied by polarized Raman spectroscopy at room temperature. Group assignments were made by comparison with Raman spectra obtained from the well known isomorphs KTiOPO 4 (KTP) and RbTiOPO 4 . The Raman features associated with vibrations of TiO bonds provide most of the scattered intensity. Splittings arising from occupation of two distinct sites by each of the AsO 4 and TiO 6 groups are observed. Additional evidence for a smaller distortion of the TiO 6 group in KTA than in KTP is also present in the Raman spectra.
