Raman and infrared spectra, including two newly reported Raman frequencies, of the hexachloroferrate anion FeCl   6 3−are presented. Comparison of the vibrational frequencies of MCl 4 and MCl 6 species indicates that the stretching frequencies increase with decrease in the coordination number, whereas the bending frequencies decrease. In addition, frequencies of the Cr–N vibrations of the hexacoordinated CrN 6 system of the Cr(NH 3 )   6 3+cation are also reported.
