IR and polarized Raman Spectra of Na 4 P 2 O 7 · 10H 2 O were recorded and analysed. From the spectra it is inferred that the P 2 O 7 4−ion has C 2ν symmetry in the crystal. The δPOP band is found to belong to the A 2 species. Multiple bands observed for the stretching and bending modes of water are probably due to hydrogen bonds of different strengths and the correlation field effect.
