Abstract The FT‐IR and Raman spectra of six 1 : 1 complexes produced by reaction of 1,4,7,10‐tetraoxacyclotetradecane [12‐crown(4)], 1,4,7,10,13‐pentaoxacyclopentadecane [15‐crown(5)] and 1,4,7,10,13,16‐hexaoxacyclooctadecane [18‐crown(6)] with MnX 2 (X = CL, Br) were recorded in the solid state. Vibrational assignements are proposed for the major bands observed in the spectra of these new crown ether complexes, especially the antisymmetric and symmetric COC stretching modes in the 1200–800 cm −1 region and the MnO and MnX stretching vibrations in the region below 400 cm −1 . Probable structures of these complexes are also discussed.
