The Raman and infrared spectra of pimelic acid, (CH 2 ) 5 [COOH (D)] 2 , and its potassium salts in aqueous solution were recorded from 4000 to 200 cm −1 . The two salts belong to the C s symmetry point group whereas the acid has C 1 symmetry. These results are similar to those found previously for lower alkanedloic acids with an odd number of carbon atoms, namely glutaric acid, (CH 2 ) 3 (COOH) 2 , and malonic acid, CH 2 (COOH) 2 .
