Pre‐resonance Raman and infrared spectra of (5‐dimethylaminopenta‐2, 4‐dienylidene)dimethylammonium per‐chlorate have been measured in various environments. Unusual intensity changes of some particular peaks in the Raman spectra are observed for two crystalline polymorphs and solutions of the dye. Most of the Raman and infrared bands in solution are assigned to normal modes. This analysis allows the major difference between the spectra of two polymorphs to be explained.
