The Raman spectra of solid odd‐numbered n ‐alkanes were analysed in the frequency ranges corresponding to the LAM‐1 and the methyl rocking modes, in order to specify the nature and the quantity of the gauche forms occurring in the high‐temperature phases. The evolution of the LAM‐1 frequency under different pressure and temperature conditions is discussed in connection with the interlamellar distances. In the high‐temperature phases, the relative quantity and the nature of the gauche forms located at the ends and near the ends of the chains was estimated as functions of the chain length and of temperature.
