Complete Raman and IR spectra were recorded for tetrabromophosphonium salts of tetrabromo‐borate, ‐aluminate, ‐gallate and ‐indate. The compounds were prepared by precipitation from non‐aqueous solvents in which the reactants were dissolved and reacted. Their vibrational spectra are interpreted on the basis of these complexes being of ionic structure of the general formula [PBr 4 ] + [MBr 4 ] − , both ions being tetrahedral with T d symmetry. All the expected fundamentals have been observed and assigned.
