The resonance Raman spectra of 13 C‐ and 2 H‐substituted carotenoids were observed from photosynthetic bacteria cultured in 13 C‐and 2 H‐substituted media, respectively. The observed Raman bands of 13 C‐ and 2 H‐substituted carotenoids could be reasonably assigned on the basis of the normal coordinate analysis of a model molecule. This gave substantial support to the previous assignments of the Raman and infrared bands of β‐carotene.
