Raman and infrared spectra of polycrystalline samples of CH 3 I and CD 3 I were recorded at temperatures between 20 K and the melting point, 209 K. No evidence for a solid‐state phase transition was found. New splittings of the internal modes and more complete lattice spectra were observed at lower temperatures. An assignment of all principal bands is proposed, based on the known molecular and crystal structures.
