The degree of circular polarization, C (π), has been measured for resonance Raman scattering from the [ReS 4 ] − ion in a microcrystalline sample at 10 K. There is considerable partially relaxed luminescence which is discriminated against by this technique. The relative values of C (π), observed for components of resonantly enhanced Raman bands, provide evidence for assignments to non‐totally symmetric modes of the ion.
