In accordance with the crystal structure proposed by Binnie, the principal vibrations of a Pb 2 MoO 5 crystal have been analysed. The symmetry types of all characteristic modes were calculated and the symmetry types of the internal and external vibration modes of the MoO 4 2− and other ions were further calculated by means of factor group analysis. The experimental results are compared with those of the group‐theoretical calculations, and with the Raman lines of PbMoO 4 and other Scheelite‐type crystals. The distribution of the spectral lines and their symmetry show the effect of the internal vibrations of the MoO 4 2− ion in a Pb 2 MoO 5 crystal.
